What are the advantages for marine organisms to have bioluminescence?
Why ever would a marine organism want to produce light? Like doesnt that seem like a disadvantage? Is it for finding mates or distinguishing btwn species? I can find the definition and hte chemical mechanism of bioluminescence. I just cant find why it is adaptative to have it. What do these organisms do with the bioluminescence light theyproduce? Please provide me with some articles that prove/ relate the importance of bioluminescence with marine behavior. Thanks.
Well light cannot penetrate as deep through water so being able to light your way helps you see your predators if you’re running from them and your prey if you’re looking for a meal
